DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH AND RESEARCH CENTRE

            Department of English, Aditanar College of Arts and Science, Tiruchendur was provisionally recognized as a Research Centre by Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli to offer Ph.D. programme in the academic year 2012-2013. Prof. V. Shanthi, Associate Professor of English is serving as the Head of the Research Centre. As on 15.07.2024, 12 scholars are doing Ph.D. research under the guidance of Dr. K. Thanikasalam, Dr. R. Rita Yasodha, Dr. C. Shola Fernando and Dr. A. Parvathavarthini. 22 scholars were awarded the degree after their viva voce examination was conducted in the Research Centre. 5 have submitted their theses and are waiting for the viva voce exam.

Objectives of the Research Centre:

  • To inculcate the fervor for research in the minds of the scholars and to make them understand its importance.
  • To provide the scholars with a convenient space to pursue their research smoothly.
  • To guide the scholars to explore the possibilities in the areas of their studies with systematic analysis with the support of critical theories.
  • To enable the scholars to cope up with the national and international standard in their competence.
  • To enlighten the scholars to be aware of the recent trends in the fields of English Literature and Linguistics.

Features of the Research Centre:

  • The Research Centre is networked with broad band internet and INFLIBNET network of UGC can be accessed.
  • There is an air-conditioned Language lab equipped with 22 systems.
  • Three minor projects funded by UGC have been completed by Dr. J. Sathiyalakshmi, Dr. C. Shola Fernando and Dr. A. Kavitha.
  • More than 50 research papers have been published in reputed national and international journals.
